In recent years, the literature distinguishes between two types of cell death. They are: accidental cell death, which is defined as necrosis and programmed cell death (PCD called), called apoptosis. In some situations, such as in many pathological conditions, both types of cell death may coexist. It is important to determine which type of cell death predominates in a particular disease, because it is one of the ways to find and apply the proper treatment. For identification of apoptotic and necrotic cells in the test cell population, a large number of methods. They allow detection of endonucleolytic DNA degradation, cell morphology changes and activation or suppression of specific proteins. This paper presents and discusses a number of methods that should be used to correct and unambiguous characterization of cell death.
