Cord blood contains stem cells capable of hematopoietic repopulation and the production of mature cells belonging to other tissue . While the hematopoietic stem cells are relatively well characterized , the presence of other ( non-hematopoietic ) still raises a lot of controversy . Although there are reports of the presence of the umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cell counterparts adults , some authors deny their existence , and the other hypothesis assumes that produced tissue ( nerve , bone , muscle , etc.) can occur as a result of the so-called . hematopoietic stem cell plasticity . In our study identified a subpopulation of adherent cells grown as a plastic capable of producing at least some types of nerve cells. There were no transdifferentiation ability of hematopoietic cell population ( CD34 + , CD45 + , nonadherent in vitro) in the direction of the nerve cells or nerve cell precursor ( CD34 ? , CD45 ? Adhering to the plastic ) in the direction of the lines of hematopoietic differentiation . The authors suggest that the presence of progenitor cells other than hematopoietic tissues due to the presence of separate cord blood stem cell population , and not the effect of hematopoietic cell plasticity .
